One of the unique aspects of the Amazon ML Challenge Explorer archive is the preservation of 17 discrete leaderboard checkpoints captured during the competitive phase.

These snapshots document the dynamic trajectory of teams as new models were uploaded, test sets evaluated, and rank displacements triggered.

Checkpoint Timeline Milestones

• Checkpoints 1–4 (Initial Ingestion Phase): Baseline submissions began populating the board. Early leaders established reference scores around 0.60–0.72.
• Checkpoints 5–10 (Mid-Competition Surge): Rapid adoption of transfer learning architectures. Active team count expanded from 3,398 to over 4,000.
• Checkpoints 11–15 (Late-Stage Convergence): Top teams breached the 0.9000 F1 score barrier. Climber activity peaked as major model retraining pipelines completed.
• Checkpoints 16–17 (Final Lock): Last-minute submissions produced significant displacements in ranks 50 through 500.

Analyzing the Velocity of Change
